Lorna Stewart

100x132 Born in Europe, growing up in Malaysia, and living her adult life between Australia and the UK, Lorna Stewart celebrates cultural diversity. Since 1998 she has developed a successful international coaching practice working with business owners (including coaches and consultants), entrepreneurs and executives. Passionate about coaching as a powerful instrument for transformation, she has also created several professional coach and manager-as-coach training programs, thereby coaching, mentoring and training more than 1,500 coaches and executives in Australia, New Zealand, the UK, Europe, the USA, Singapore and South Africa.

Lorna is deeply committed to supporting people in realising their highest potential, in business leadership, as well as in their personal lives. She sees her role as that of a catalyst, to stretch and empower the people she partners with to move beyond apparent limitations and align themselves fully with their core purpose, to make a real and lasting difference to the world, while achieving outstanding results in their personal and professional lives.

As a transpersonal coach Lorna explores many ways to go beyond the everyday self to an integration and embodiment of a person’s true values, purpose and meaning. Working with metaphor is a particularly powerful connective pathway to the core self.

The Transformational Power of Metaphor in Coaching

Metaphors occur in communication (verbal and visual) across all cultures, and are central to how we perceive and make sense of our inner experience. Often unconscious, they drive our thoughts and behaviours. When a metaphor is brought to conscious awareness, we receive great insight into how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us.

The art of eliciting, recognising and coaching through a client’s metaphors can powerfully transform their way of being in the world, both individually and in relationship, professionally and personally. Engaging and dancing with metaphor profoundly opens up the coaching conversation, offering an opportunity for deep understanding of oneself and others, moving communication from head to heart, and creating a deep shift in attitudes, emotions and behaviour.

In this session we will explore individual, organisational and cultural metaphors, and how simple 1:1 and group coaching techniques can be applied for deeper understanding and communication, and lasting change.
