Significant Events and Lessons in Coach Development: Evidence and Implications

The Development of Coaches Research Network (DCRC), a consortium of independent coaching researchers, has created a long-term, international project to investigate the coach development process. The study is designed to help executive coach practitioners, coach educators, and those employing executive coaches to: understand the backgrounds, training, ongoing work and professional development activities which contribute to the maturation of coaching skills and gain insight into the role of experience in the development of master.

The questionnaire includes one open ended question: "Please think of one to three different events in your life which have significantly influenced your development as a coach. Describe the nature of the event, your role in it, and what you learned from it. Include all details that you think will help us understand your experience."

This session aims to share the initial findings from this open ended question and begin to apply the lessons derived there from to the development of coaches in a practical and sustainable way.
One of the lessons from the research is that the best coaches integrate the events from their personal lives into their careers. This session will also create the opportunities for participants to explore the work life distinction and how they want to integrate the two in their own lives.
