My Coach - My ‘Guru’ – a framework to understand Executive Coaching in Asian cultures & organizations

Executive coaches may assume that coaching processes, which work in the West, are universally applicable. They are not! Culture influences a client’s mental maps, and Asian organization cultures are different from Western organizations. This session presents knowledge and tools that will enhance understanding and ability to work with Asian cultures. It will help coaches understand how culture influences the coaching relationship, and how they need to adapt their approach to get better results for their clients. At the end of this session, participants will understand how culture influences thinking, behavior, communication, and expectations of both leaders and team members in Asian contexts. They will realize how culture defines the mental models, and expectations that clients can have from Executive Coaches. They will relook at their coaching process and know how to adapt it to suit the cultural ethos of the client. Developing cultural competence will help Executive Coaches sustain their practice by extending to new niches and across geographical boundaries.
